High style, ancient village: this exceptionally lovely and spacious
apartment is located in one of the most sought after southern Luberon villages.
Lourmarin has a reputation as an artist’s colony, yet attracts
tourists who
enjoy a stroll among boutiques, relax in its cafes, and explore its chateau. All
services are available—from the nearby café to well known restaurants, the
local post office to the bakery, everything you need is just a stroll away. Aix
en Provence, only a thirty minute drive, is just one of the alluring
destinations in the region—visitors are delighted whether they are biking
along tiny country lanes, enjoying the famous Provencal cuisine or discovering tiny villages like Ansouis and Vaugine (scenes from My Mother’s
Castle and My Father’s Glory were filmed in the little church
square here),
Before you read further, let us say that this stylish two bedroom with two baths is our absolute favorite for two couples traveling together, and we assure you that this refined Lourmarin apartment is fairly priced and excellent value.
Petite Provence
is professionally decorated to focus on local antiques and charming, sunny
colors. It is spacious and completely equipped for a very comfortable stay. From
the little lane off the main street in
to the right leads to the enormous and delightful living room. The large soft
sofas invites readers to curl up and enjoy a moment’s rest by the
fireplace. An architectural archway opens to the dining room. On the right wall
of the living room are French doors opening onto a cute little terrace with
dining furniture. A pergola-shades the
terrace and four deck chairs are available for an afternoon siesta.
At the far side of the apartment and off the
dining room is a new kitchen that has plenty of space for the gourmet cook and
assistants. A hallway connects this kitchen to the dining area and leads to a
beautiful king bedroom with en suite facilities (tub, WC, sink, etc.),
and back the left of the entry is a charming twin bedroom en suite. These
beds can be joined to make a king bed.
Petite Provence
is the culmination of a complete professional renovation and everything is
immaculate and high standard. It is perfect for honeymooners and highly
recommended for two discriminating couples traveling together.
A half-hour drive from Lourmarin is the splendid university town of Aix-en-Provence which will reward veteran café sitters, veteran shoppers and seekers of cultural events. Be sure to attend the voluptuous Sunday morning market at Isle-sur-Sorgue, where local Cavaillon melons lie next to the best antiques in the South of France. Within an hour you are assured visits to all the famous markets and sites of classic Provence-Avignon, Arles, Les Baux de Provence, and St. Remy. Mediterranean beaches are 60-90 minutes’ drive. Golf course at Mallemort. Local tennis courts. Hiking in immediate environs. Parking is two minutes away and unloading is possible at the apartment entrance.
Lourmarin is a 50-minute drive east of Avignon, the closest TGV stop en route from Paris. Airport Charles de Gaulle in Paris has TGV service to Avignon in less than three hours. International airport: Marseilles, less than an hour south on the Autoroute du Soleil. Nice is 140 miles to the east.
