If you dream
of sweeping lavender fields, thyme crushed beneath your feet, lazy days under
the Provencal sun, this pristine property on the heights of the Luberon National
Park bids you welcome. Lavender
Hill is an ancient farm restored in an authentic way to provide utter peace and
privacy to its lucky guests. Five converted buildings of dry stone dot the
property and all are oriented in a way that none seems to encroach on the
other—hence unless you run into someone at the shared pool, you are assured
total peace. Those wanting complete independence can hire Lavender Cottage,
which boasts its own private pool. Situated on a plateau of truffle oaks and
lavender fields—where wonderful biking is possible—Lavender Hill is between
Bonnieux and Saignon, both ancient medieval hill villages. Shops and services
are minutes away by car. Here we have the heart of Provence where each old
village has its market day while fetes and concerts fill the valley with music.
You read about it in A Year in Provence: indeed today Peter Mayle’s new
Luberon home isn’t far from
Lavender Hill.
All five of the stone
cottages have beautiful, comfortable interiors.
Two cater to couples, another two have two bedrooms with en suite baths, and
one, Lavender Cottage, can accommodate six if the double sofa-bed is put into
service. Each has the modern
amenities to provide an easy going holiday: TV, VCR, stereo (cassette
tapes/CDs), washing machine, dishwasher, private telephone line, automatic
coffeemaker—you will not be annoyed by any inconvenience here at Lavender
Hill. Even during the Provencal winter guests are comfy thanks to central
heating. Ventoux Cottage is suitable for handicapped guests in wheelchairs (one
step up to the cottage) and several have open fireplaces. Videos, games,
cookbooks and guides provide amusement and information to make your holiday fun
for all family members.
One cannot
imagine a nicer place to breathe the fresh, pungent air of Provence than at
Lavender Hill. The magnificent views sweeping across the Luberon to Mont Ventoux
is just icing on the cake. Lavender Hill has English speaking owners and
managers eager to help you have a memorable visit to Provence. Prices on the
cottages range from $475 in winter for the smallest to $2500 in peak season for
the largest. There are serious rate reductions for long term winter lets.

Hill. To the rear of the cottage are the spectacular Luberon hills and to the
south is the walled herb garden. To the front the re

Ventoux Cottage
is a splendid conversion of a one story stone barn. It overlooks the famous Mont
Ventoux (miles away) and is flanked by the majestic lavender fields to the front
of the house and the flower garden at the rear. If you want fantastic views from
your terrace in Provence, this is the cottage for you! Its situation is at the
far end of the lane on the estate and therefore Ventoux Cottage is convenient to
the shared pool (but not annoyingly so).
There are terraces
on three sides of the cottage so that there is no excuse for getting a tan or
avoiding the noonday sunshine. Ventoux Cottage is the largest of the shared-pool
cottages at Lavender Hill. The house develops on one floor and can accommodate a
guest using a wheelchair although it is not specifically fitted out for the
handicapped. There is one step up to the terrace and one of the bedrooms is
accessed by an additional step down.
The main terrace has an iron
arbor with outdoor dining table and chairs (views), and French doors lead into
Ventoux.
There is a superbly equipped
fitted kitchen/dining room with a wide (80cm) oven, 5 ring cooktop, dishwasher,
washing machine, fridge-freezer, pretty provencal table and chairs. The sitting
area has sofa and armchairs and the usual mod-cons: TV/VCR, stereo
(CD/cassettes),
private telephone line, board games, cook books, novels and films.
There are
two bedrooms in Ventoux Cottage: one has a double bed (140 cm) and en suite
bathroom with claw-foot tub, sink and WC. There are French doors leading to the
terrace. The second bedroom has two oversized (120cm) twin beds and en suite
shower with sink and WC. It, too, has French doors opening onto the terrace.
Roam around barefoot in this gorgeous holiday home.

LITTLE STONE CABIN
Sleeps 2

If you are
romantic and want to have a wonderful little place all your own, this two storey
stone cabanon is adorable and boasts great views of the medieval perched vill age
of Saignon above it. The little stone cabin has all the amenities and totally
charming furnishings…it only lacks a dishwasher. There are all the same
mod-cons as at Lavender Hill: TV/VCR, telephone, washing machine, stereo: it
only lacks a dishwasher. The first story comprises an open plan living area with

Perfect honeymoon home but we recommend it away from the hot July/August months.
