Agresto Review                                Tuscany

Kitchen (DW/WM) Living/Dining Room Study 1 DBR 1TWBR 2 Baths

Beautiful 13th century barn that has been restored and transformed into an independent house. The house sits on a hilltop surrounded by 7 hectares of land that is entirely fenced in to afford maximum privacy. Access to the property is by a private asphalt road with two electronic gates. Siena is at 2 miles with all facilities, shops and restaurants. 350 yards from the entrance gate is a bus stop with regular service to the center of Siena that is ideal for those who want to visit the town on foot. At less than .66 miles are basic food shops.

Separate from the barn is the main farmhouse where the owner and a family of caretakers live. On request, the caretakers are available to provide both maid service and cooking for guests. The property dominates the surrounding countryside and sits on a hill opposite Siena, offering fantastic views. There is a beautiful 21X42ft2 swimming pool that is shared with the owners, who also have two very sweet dogs that roam the property at will.

There is a covered car park between the farmhouse and the barn with space for guests. The house offers satellite TV, telephone, washing machine and central gas heating. Gas is payable on consumption during heating season. Children under ten years of age are not permitted, and a minimum sojourn of two weeks is requested. Agresto has a deluxe rating.

The front of the barn has two circular pillars that are telltale characteristics of its ancient origins. They have been maintained during the careful restoration that has also been directed using the original old bricks to repair the damage that time wrought to the typical Sienese region.

Private ground floor entrance is into a spacious living/dining room with a high wood beamed ceiling. There are glass paneled doors on two sides of the living room that grant access to two external terraces, private to the barn. The living room wall opposite the main entrance has two staircases, one leads to the second floor and the other leads down.

The lower level has a hallway with three doors. One opens into a spacious kitchen that is fully equipped with gas range, oven, dishwasher and fridge with freezer. A second door opens into a double bedroom with door to the outside, and the third door opens into a spacious complete bathroom with shower stall and jacuzzi bathtub.

The upper floor has a door opening into a twin bedded room (can be paired to make a queen bed) with ensuite complete bathroom with bathtub. The bedroom again has a wood beamed ceiling and there is a door in it that opens into a study/sitting room. The house is impeccably furnished in high standard and is quite luminous and comfortable.

Mike and Virginia May 2000

Dear Susan,

The view from our hillside is more beautiful than the photo on this postcard.

It’s a lovely place-have you seen it? Peace & quiet-birds singing day and night. Flowers everplace. We love it—I’ll write you a long descriptive email when I get home. Great choice!

Yesterday (our first real day here) we observed the crowds at Il Campo plus religious festivities. Siena is great. Italians drive like fiends but on our hillside all is peace, quiet and calm.

Cheers-Virginia and Mike
